New Beginnings...

The following explains why the Biscuit Foundation is needed to make a difference in peoples and their pets lives.

Cagney, an eight year old lab mix, is a very laid back and easy going older gentlemen. A 77 year old man who had recently lost his wife of over 50 years, was very lonely and had expressed to his daughter he was wanting to look for a pet companion to be his buddy. This gentleman has a great personality, sense of humor, enjoys camping, being outside and wanted a gentle calm dog to share his life with. We knew Cagney would perfectly fit the bill. When they first met, Cagney walked in slowly, tail wagging and greeted his new adoptive parent as if they had known each other forever. As they drove off, it as apparent they were heading for a happier life together. Cagney’s days are now filled with truck rides, long walks and enjoying his favorite new treat, liver pudding. In the evenings, Cagney and his new owner can be found relaxing on the patio watching and listening to the songbirds. No more lonely days or nights for these two gentlemen who had lost someone very near to their hearts, they now have each other.

Ginger, an energetic four year old black lab, was adopted by a lady and her two young sons that were rebuilding their lives. She had always had Labradors as a child and adopting Ginger would bring back memories of happier times in her life. The first day they met, she just held her, Ginger stood completely still as if she knew how much they needed each other. The pain and hurt of losing a loved one and a home for both of them was on the road to healing. Ginger, now renamed Scout, spends her days playing in the back yard with her two little brothers who enjoy sharing the responsibility of her care. At night, Scout can be found snuggled up sleeping with the boys. She has completed this home with a solid foundation of trust and unconditional love.

Nubby, a 15 year old Rat Terrier mix, was surrendered to the shelter by a family member shortly after his elderly caregiver passed away. Although in good health, Nubby’s age would sadly decide his fate unless a rescue organization stepped in. It was two days before Christmas 2010 and we received an e-mail telling us of Nubby’s situation. He had to be out of the shelter because his time was up. The Biscuit Foundation stepped in to help this old fellow that nobody wanted. Nubby is your typical little old man, set in his ways. He will let you know what he wants by barking, telling you that it was feeding time, going outside or just needing help getting on the couch. When you rub his head, he puts his ears back and looks as if he is smiling as his nub tail wags the entire time.

Little Girl is a 13 year old Pomeranian/ Shih Tzu mix who had been a faithful loving companion to an elderly lady. Upon her owner’s passing, she went from a safe, secure life to an unsure future. The Biscuit Foundation was contacted and informed of the dilemma Little Girl was now facing. She had gone from being in a loving home to entering an over crowded shelter in one day. We felt Little Girl deserved to live the rest of her life in a loving home, which she had always known. The first night she was brought home, she proudly pranced in to meet her new family. After a good meal and playtime in the back yard, she ran in the house and jumped up on the back of the couch and stretched out. She acted as if this had always been her home.

Rosie is a 6 year old Border Collie mix who's previous owner was diagnosed with cancer on October 12, 2009 and was never able to return home. Without family in the immediate area, Rosie was boarded at a local vet clinic for a few weeks while her owner looked for her a new home. A friend contacted the Biscuit Foundation and we were glad to help in anyway we could. Rosie was surrendered to us on November 28. She was now in our network looking for that special someone to open their heart and home to her. We quickly found out that Rosie was extremely intelligent. She was completely house broken and when she has to go out, she will gently lay her paw on your knee. She enjoys being around people and loves to take long walks. She is a awesome girl and aims to please her people! She is being fostered by Robin Sheppard, one of our board members while we look for her a new home.
Sadly, Rosie's previous owner passed away on January 13, 2010, exactly 3 months after she had been diagnosed. Her friend expressed she was at peace knowing Rosie was being cared for by the Biscuit Foundation.

Illness and death are non-discriminating. They give equal opportunity to everyone at any age, at any time. And as bleak as this may sound, unbelievable strength, loyalty and happiness can prevail under these circumstances.Gretel, a playful Jack Russell terrier, was left homeless when her 34 year old owner died suddenly. A loyal friend took her in but because of unforeseen circumstances with her own dog, it became apparent Gretel would have to be rehomed. She contacted several rescue organizations without luck.Someone told her about the Biscuit Foundation and we received an e-mail asking if there was anyway we could help.A listener heard about our foundation and cause on a local radio station. Wanting to adopt a pet for her two young girls, she contacted our organization. She explained to us about her father who had recently entered into an assisted living home and although he did not have a pet, she couldn't imagine the heartache he would have experienced if he had to part with a beloved pet. After meeting Gretel, they fell in love. She was the inspiration to unite these two families. The loyalty and strength to carry out a promise to a friend brought unexpected love and happiness to a family that believed in what a good cause the Biscuit Foundation stood for.

Lady-Boo is a 14 year old Chihuahua mix. Her owner, 80 years young, had experienced a nasty fall which resulted in a fractured hip. Although surgery was not necessary, rehabilitation and physical therapy services were needed. Living on social security and a limited income, who would care for Lady -Boo was a major concern for her owner. A family member contacted Pampered Pets and explained the situation they were up against. Providing care for Lady-Boo at a reduced rate through The Biscuit Foundation proved to be a welcoming alternative for the family and the owner. Lady-Boo has been fostered and cared for by Robin Sheppard, a Biscuit Foundation board member. Her days are filled with strolls, lying in the sun and taking midday naps and getting all the attention. She has been surrounded by love and eagerly awaits her owner's recovery. Knowing Lady-Boo is happy and loved gives her owner the strength to concentrate on getting better and not stressing over her four-legged baby at this critical time in her life.
